From e1dbb39e246d94bccb66ce8c52056a49d3f1e481 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Doberjohn Date: Mon, 2 Nov 2026 16:34:45 +0200 Subject: [PATCH] docs: install 6.x from the alpha tag in getting started The install command now uses the alpha tag, because the untagged package still installs 5.x. The page also states that 6.x requires React 19 and the New Architecture, and the Customization example imports LightTheme instead of the removed MD3LightTheme. The Expo tab now installs @react-native-vector-icons/material-design-icons, since Paper no longer falls back to @expo/vector-icons. --- docs/6.x/docs/guides/getting-started.mdx | 23 +++++++++++++++-------- 1 file changed, 15 insertions(+), 8 deletions(-) diff --git a/docs/6.x/docs/guides/getting-started.mdx b/docs/6.x/docs/guides/getting-started.mdx index 89cc84788d..45ccaf2c01 100644 --- a/docs/6.x/docs/guides/getting-started.mdx +++ b/docs/6.x/docs/guides/getting-started.mdx @@ -9,12 +9,16 @@ import Tabs from '@docs/components/Tabs'; ## Installation +React Native Paper 6.x requires React 19 and React Native's New Architecture. + Open a Terminal in your project's folder and install the library: ```bash npm2yarn -npm install react-native-paper +npm install react-native-paper@alpha ``` +React Native Paper 6.x is a prerelease published under the npm `alpha` tag, and `npm install react-native-paper` without the tag still installs 5.x. + React Native Paper uses [react-native-safe-area-context](https://github.com/th3rdwave/react-native-safe-area-context) for handling safe area, [react-native-reanimated](https://docs.swmansion.com/react-native-reanimated/) and [react-native-worklets](https://docs.swmansion.com/react-native-worklets/) for animations. @@ -32,7 +36,13 @@ Minimum requirements: Follow the [React Native Reanimated installation guide](https://docs.swmansion.com/react-native-reanimated/docs/fundamentals/getting-started/). -If you use Expo, you don't need to install vector icons - those are the part of the expo package.
