Progress report: one nav group (drop the stage chips), duplicate id=stamp, stale header wording, page names #479

Description

Found in: maintainer review of progress reports generated since 1.0 (2026-10-20). Generated by project-bin/progress-report.py.

1. Top bar mixes two kinds of links

The sticky bar (progress-report.py:1519, .snav) has two groups:

  • Left: Stage P 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 chips that jump to each stage card (current stage filled, passed stages outlined).
  • Right: Build · Pages · Tips, which jump to the page's sections.

The left group repeats the stage list directly below it, and two kinds of navigation in one bar makes the page feel busy.

Expected: keep only the section links on the right and add one Stages link that jumps to the stage list. The header already states the current stage. Keep the bar sticky, keep #stage-N anchors working for links from elsewhere, and keep it phone-width safe.

2. Three elements share id=stamp

The "Last updated" span, the "session log last event" span (both :1521) and the footer note (:1788) all carry id=stamp. Duplicate ids are invalid HTML, and anything that reads getElementById('stamp') (for example change detection on auto-reload) only sees the first one. Give each a unique id, and check what the reload script and the fixtures expect.

3. Stale wording in the header

"replaces the former build-plan.html" in the header sub-line (:1522) was useful at the 1.0 switch and is noise now. The build-plan.html note already lives under "How this was measured" and in the release notes.

4. Three names for three pages

The header links index.html as "gate-check page". The project has three generated surfaces with similar names: the progress report, the process map, and the gate dashboard (index.html, titled "Conversion Dashboard"). Proposal: change the display titles only, keeping file names and the Progress report: setting:

  • progress report → Build tracker;
  • process map → Business process map;
  • index.html → Gate dashboard.

Acceptance

  • One group of links in the top bar, including Stages.
  • grep -c 'id=stamp' on the rendered page returns at most 1, and the auto-reload still works.
  • No "replaces the former build-plan.html" in the header.
  • Item 4 is decided by the maintainer before it is built.

    Items 1–3 shipped in #486 (merged via #490): one nav group (Stages, Build, Pages, Tips), unique stamp ids, and the stale header wording removed. Reopened for item 4, the page names (Build tracker / Business process map / Gate dashboard), which waits on the maintainer's decision.
