The bundled semble-search subagent definitions gated their tools to shell/read only, so the in-memory MCP tools (tens of ms per search) were never reachable and every search fell back to the ~5s-per-call CLI. - Tier A: claude, opencode, kilo - allow the confirmed MCP tool names alongside the original shell/read entries - Tier B: gemini, qwen, copilot, kiro, zcode, commandcode, reasonix - same, with each harness's documented naming convention - Tier C: cursor, codex, pi, grok - body-only MCP-first with graceful CLI fallback (no tool gate) - Bodies are MCP-first with a CLI fallback section keeping the pinned uvx line; antigravity left unchanged (naming unconfirmed, known gap) - Tests: parametrized gate/body/pin assertions per tier; updated the claude.md gate test that pinned the old Bash-only behavior

Fixes #290.
The bundled
semble-searchsubagent definitions gated their tools to shell/read only, so none of the shipped subagents could call the semble MCP tools registered by the samesemble install— every search fell back to the ~5 s-per-call CLI instead of the in-memory MCP path (~18 ms median on the benchmark repo).Changes, per tier:
claude, opencode, kilo— allow the confirmed MCP tool names in the gate alongside the original shell/read entriesgemini, qwen, copilot, kiro, zcode, commandcode, reasonix— same, using each harness's documented naming conventioncursor, codex,pi,grok— body-only MCP-first with graceful CLI fallbackAll rewritten bodies are MCP-first with a CLI fallback section. Templates keep the literal
uvx --from "semble[mcp]" sembleline, which the installer rewrites into the version-pinned spec at install time. Also updates the claude.md gate test (which pinned the old Bash-only behavior) and adds parametrized gate/body/pin tests per tier.
Verified end-to-end (2026-10-08):
