Summary

  • Pin the NVIDIA driver role to v2.4.0, now available from Ansible Galaxy.
  • Align Ubuntu open-kernel package selection's pre-role fallback with the role's driver branch 580 default, preserving explicit branch and suffix overrides.
  • Document matching kernel-modules packages for offline EL9+ distribution mirrors and the option for separately managed modules.
  • Add a fact-only package-selection regression covering default open modules, explicit branch overrides, suffix overrides and unchanged proprietary configurations.

Validation

  • Fresh isolated ansible-galaxy role install nvidia.nvidia_driver,v2.4.0 succeeded.
  • Five local package-selection cases passed in normal and check mode; the default-open case failed before the fallback fix.
  • Driver playbook syntax check passed with the installed v2.4.0 role.
  • Diff whitespace and public-content checks passed.
  • Independent review passed on this exact commit.

Notes

Role release: https://github.com/NVIDIA/ansible-role-nvidia-driver/releases/tag/v2.4.0

Repository CI is pending. No GPU-hardware validation is claimed. Existing package suffix behavior is unchanged.

Keep pre-role open-module selection consistent with the driver default.
Document matching kernel modules for offline EL9 distribution mirrors.
