User description

The alarm said it was set or cancelled when it wasn't, and notifications fired at the wrong time or in the wrong language.

stacked on the backup and data PR.

alarm

  • setting or cancelling the alarm said it worked even when the band never got it.
  • "fired at" showed the band's own clock instead of real time, and siri's "enable tomorrow's alarm" picked the wrong day after midnight.
  • the 7pm "no alarm set" check no longer nags people who don't use the alarm.

notifications and buzzes

  • notifications were always in english, whatever language the app was set to.
  • the morning briefing, check-in and wind-down reminder fired at the wrong time or not at all for late sleepers.
  • phone notifications buzzed the band during quiet hours, and med and water buzzes could arrive hours late.
  • there's a new "buzz band" shortcut on ios that tells you when the buzz failed. fixes iOS: a way for another app to buzz the strap #604

watch, widgets and workouts

  • siri and the watch gave unhelpful messages while readiness was calibrating, and the watch didn't update when the app opened.
  • widgets and the workout live activity kept showing old data as current.
  • finishing a workout from the lock screen left it running until the app was opened.

PR Type

Bug fix, Enhancement, Tests

Description

  • Fix alarm cancel/set falsely reporting success when the write never reached the band; fire time now shown in wall time (not strap RTC frame); Siri "enable tomorrow's alarm" resolves the correct weekday from the request instant

  • Fix notifications always appearing in English regardless of app language; fix morning briefing never arming for late-night passes; fix 7pm "no alarm set" check firing for users who never use the band alarm; fix wind-down/check-in slots for late sleepers; fix band buzzing during quiet hours

  • Fix widget/watch staleness using elapsed hours instead of calendar days (DST regression); fix watch showing bare "Not scored" during calibration/provisional scoring; fix Live Activity keeping stale HR/zone as a live reading; fix lock-screen Finish not ending workout until app opened

  • Add "Buzz Band" iOS Shortcut with delivery confirmation; fix Tasker buzz firing hours late after device sleep; fix med/water buzzer firing hours late after device suspend; fix duplicate concurrent workout stops

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Recovery, step-goal, battery, wind-down, workout, and supplement notifications are available in the selected language.
    • Notification settings can be opened from the app, and Siri alarm requests and shortcut buzzes provide clearer status feedback.
    • AI briefings and reminders better account for current-day data and configured coach settings.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved alarm and reminder timing, including quiet-hours handling and filtering of late or outdated events.
    • Notifications, alarms, and workout actions respond more reliably when permissions, connections, or commands fail.
    • Low readings from metrics still accumulating are no longer reported prematurely.
    • Alarm schedule changes report when the connected band does not accept them.

across a spring-forward night two local midnights are 47 h apart, so a
snapshot from two days back floored to one day and the home-screen widget
and watch kept showing saturday's numbers as current all of monday. count
calendar days with calendarDaysBetween instead.

…er reached the strap

disableAlarm threw away whether the 0x45 write was delivered, so a timeout or
dropped link still cleared the schedule and the armed epoch while the band kept
the alarm and buzzed anyway. with the epoch gone nothing ever retried. it now
returns the write result: the cancel button reports the failure and keeps the
alarm, and turning every day off only counts as disabled once the write lands,
so the next sync tries again.

(cherry picked from commit 442813f4ba3d9fe5c11b7ce456203ba096d4e352)
…r finishing

on night 2 of baseline calibration, on a provisional morning score, or while
last night was still being worked out, the readiness and sleep answers fell
through to "open openstrap and sync your band". syncing clears none of those.
the intents now read the overnight_why and ring_* strings the widget already
draws and say the score is calibrating (with the night count), still finishing,
or the overnight reason. the provisional number itself is still not spoken.

(cherry picked from commit 74fd6641a898331ce20dd2dae4d0091e2c6cc731)
…nishing up

readiness is -1 for a baseline still calibrating, a provisional score that is
still finishing and a night held over alike, and the watch bridge only copied
that int. the recovery ring keys and overnight_why the widgets already read
never reached the wrist. i mirror them now, and the glance draws a pending
score muted with its sub line ('finishing up', '2 of 4 nights') and puts the
reason under 'not scored' when there is one.

(cherry picked from commit 509c498e6837f3148e64baff448b6cebeedcb987)
…use the alarm

it only checked whether an alarm was armed for tonight, so someone who never
set one got 'no alarm set for tonight' every day they opened the app before
7pm, and a weekdays-only schedule got it every friday and saturday. it now
only arms when the weekly schedule has an enabled slot due tonight that
isn't armed, and it is re-decided when the schedule is edited or cleared.

(cherry picked from commit 5d7f67b30cefa0b6bbb70229478c20ca284b91ca)
the sunday lookback took the last 7 rows of the crossday rollup, which only
holds derived days. after a break from the band those rows could be weeks
old, yet the notification still said "this week flagged: ...". it now only
counts days dated within the last 7 calendar days, and stays silent when
there are none.

(cherry picked from commit 739849c5bcb9cbf10a9ec7cb7796ecdf1d9aac2e)
the ai reminder pass skipped every slot whose time had already passed
today. that rule exists for the evening sweep, whose body is about one
specific day, but the morning briefing has a static body and got the same
treatment. a user whose last foreground was after 08:00 had nothing armed
for the next morning, and on android the foreground service keeps the
process alive so init never re-ran overnight to arm it. the morning slot
now rolls to the next 08:00; the evening sweep stays today-only.

(cherry picked from commit fde43dd450c02a6c881ff58bbce83344fbc3668b)
when the phone was out of range at wake time, the band delivers the fired
event on the next reconnect and the app posted a critical 'your strap alarm
just fired' (which bypasses quiet hours) hours after the fact. the fire is
still consumed and the next slot re-armed, but the notification now only goes
out if the band's own stamp is within 10 minutes of now, and its dedupe key
comes from that stamp instead of the receive time so the same fire delivered
twice collapses.

(cherry picked from commit 35326d904221d07bede1454115fb79f9c473ce1b)
the strap re-sends already-delivered events after a reconnect, and the
headless handler set alarm_epoch_confirmed on any event 56 with no check of
its timestamp. a 56 left over from an earlier arm could mark a newer,
un-latched arm as confirmed, which hid the 'alarm not confirmed' alert and
the 7pm no-alarm check. the headless path now maps the event's strap time to
wall time and rejects a 56 stamped before this arm's set time, using the same
replay slack as the foreground.

(cherry picked from commit d1f57f782135d725c9e4367bf308d56d14e3dd6e)
asked at 00:40 on a tuesday, the intent took the next calendar date and
turned on wednesday's slot, so nothing woke the user that morning. before
local noon it now picks today's weekday, the same cut-off the rest of the
alarm code uses.

(cherry picked from commit a49b21e7b6c372beed33112d5c0dca5db9e43607)
the previous fix treated anything before noon as "the morning still ahead".
that is only true until the alarm goes off: asked at 09:00 on a tuesday after
the 07:00 alarm had passed, it turned tuesday's slot on again and left
wednesday off. the intent now latches when it was asked, and the app picks
the weekday against the schedule: today's slot only while it is still ahead
and before noon, otherwise the next day. a weekday latched by an older build
is still honoured.

(cherry picked from commit 7693b0a55a31eed5415cb24d965e113c593e86a5)
…et to

every producer writes its title and body in english and the notification
service handed them to the os untouched, so a russian ui got 'your recovery
is ready' and 'low battery' on the lock screen, the only place those events
are shown. i translate at that one boundary now, for immediate and scheduled
notifications alike, in the language the ui is presented in. the recovery,
step goal and low battery bodies carry numbers, so they get their own
strings and are parsed back before lookup.

(cherry picked from commit 43769effe40d1dd5ea7dc772efac716a88cee1f7)
headless entries never build the app root, so no locale controller is
bound there and the notification text fell back to the phone's language.
someone with a russian phone who picked english in the app got russian
pushes from background sync while foreground ones stayed english. the os
path now reads the saved language setting when no controller is bound,
and only follows the phone when nothing valid is saved.

(cherry picked from commit 3b49a7e209688e5ff846bfee19e4ced1b3b4871d)
a BUZZ_STRAP that arrived while the app was dead was queued with no
timestamp and retried on every later reconnect, so a rest-timer buzz
could fire hours afterwards when the band came back into range. the
receiver now records when the request arrived, and the app drops (and
clears) a queued buzz older than two minutes, including one queued by
an older build that never recorded a time.

(cherry picked from commit e7a47957ea49a8d3601bc703cc98a86b800608a5)
…-check on return

once the os holds a denial the request returns no without any dialog, so the
"turn them on" button did nothing. it now opens the app's notification page
(android) or settings page (ios) when the request is refused. the screen also
read the grant only once, so after fixing it in settings the off card stayed up
until the screen was reopened; it now re-reads on resume.

(cherry picked from commit a2ce0b72c5ba4386682e25d13210afe59b9a5fa1)
a learned bedtime at or after 01:00 put the sweep slot an hour earlier, which
wrapped past midnight to a small minute-of-day. the briefing picker then
treated the whole day as evening, so the morning briefing never ran, the
sweep was generated and cached off an almost empty day, and its notification
was always in the past and never armed. a slot that would land before noon is
now held at 23:30 instead.

(cherry picked from commit 1428f141069c404a37082e8ce61b907671aee5a6)
the midday sweep compared today's running step and strain totals with full
days, so a 13:00 count could arm the bedtime notification with "the lowest in
60 days" for a day that went on to be ordinary. cumulative metrics on a day
still in progress are now marked partial and can only produce high findings,
since a total already above the window stays above it.

(cherry picked from commit 6bb3bc623e56520e7a0e30fa98834eef570b4990)
the reminder schedule gated the morning briefing and nightly sweep slots on a
stored api key, while the briefings themselves only need the coach to be
configured. an ollama or lm studio endpoint on the device or local network
needs no key, so its briefings generated but were never announced. the
schedule now uses the same configured check as the briefings.

(cherry picked from commit a207d1f6527bce1790ae6a72722a6237a7c05c6e)
every won claim writes a notif_fired:<key> flag to shared preferences, but
the dated prune for those flags only ran in the degraded no-db branch. on a
normal device one key per notification piled up forever in the prefs file
that gets parsed at cold start and on every claim's reload. the healthy path
now prunes the mirror alongside the claim table.

(cherry picked from commit cda965e22a3269ccc2450e75be21b7d93691e6b4)
… 26 h line

the metrics widget only checks staleness when it renders, and it re-rendered
every 6 h, so a phone that stopped syncing could show yesterday's readiness
and strain as current until about 32 h. it now re-renders every 30 min like
the sleep and overnight widgets.

(cherry picked from commit 6c4504711964af583deb27b832e81ed307aa68dd)
…round

the push lived in AppDelegate.applicationDidBecomeActive, which uikit stops
calling once an app uses scenes, and flutter's scene fallback only forwards
it to plugins. i moved it to SceneDelegate.sceneDidBecomeActive so opening
the app re-mirrors the app group snapshot after a failed context update or
a re-paired watch.

(cherry picked from commit 0628096efaed6f9bfe69f5c10fcff512ec843813)
the relay buzzed the band for every post from a picked app, including the
ones the phone's do not disturb or bedtime mode silences, and it never looked
at the app's own quiet hours the way every other notification path does. so a
group chat could vibrate the wrist all night. the relay now skips the buzz
while quiet hours are in force.

(cherry picked from commit ee66b3ae859ac445f0ac30ca72b20f99e63f081c)
the buzzers arm a plain dart timer for a slot that is often hours away, and
dart timers stop counting while the phone sleeps, so a 21:00 buzz could land
in the middle of the night. the med buzzer then re-armed every other missed
dose at zero delay and buzzed them back to back. both now compare the
wall clock with the slot when the timer fires and skip anything more than ten
minutes late; the med buzzer also drops overdue slots before re-arming.

(cherry picked from commit da6db1085c0e200a955931425cd90137beb615a0)
the live activity's finish button only sets a flag in the app group, and i
only read that flag on resume. a run finished from the lock screen kept its
timer, streams and gps going in the background, and stopWorkout stamped the
next app open as the end, so the session banked hours of rest as workout.

the 1 hz workout tick now checks the flag too. the resume check also waits
for the relaunch reconcile, which could otherwise spend the tap before the
rehydrated session existed and leave it running.

(cherry picked from commit ff153978d7120b59caed9413783f7d130bf8e1bb)
stopWorkout only checked for a live workout on entry, then spent seconds in
sensor and gps flushes before clearing it. a stop from the live activity on
resume plus a tap on finish (or the mini-bar, or a band double-tap) ran two
stops at once: the session was written twice, the first stop's recovery tail
was cancelled, and if the first finished while the second was still flushing
the second hit a null workout and the finish screen said a saved workout
wasn't saved. concurrent callers now share the one stop in flight; a failed
stop still clears it so a retry runs fresh.

(cherry picked from commit 6b1c8fa48cab5c08c3147a9d3f6041591fe2c748)
editing a weekday's wake time or smart window saved the row and always
showed the success message, even when the link was down or the strap
rejected SET_ALARM_TIME, so the band kept the old time with no warning.
the arm result now says when a needed write failed, setScheduleDay
returns whether the band holds the new schedule, and the screen reports
it as saved-but-not-on-the-band. the day toggle goes through the same
path instead of failing silently, and the test buzz reports a write that
never went out instead of saying it is buzzing.

(cherry picked from commit d3d5bbcff789b2580b2145c041dd699c0d3bfd15)
android could already buzz the strap from another app through tasker, but
ios had no shortcuts action for it, so a rest timer in a workout app had no
way to tap the wrist. there is now a buzz band intent that runs without
opening the app and sends the buzz over the shortcut bridge. it only uses a
link the app already holds and answers within about five seconds; it never
starts a connect to deliver a buzz late, and it never throws, so a missed
buzz does not stop the calling shortcut.

(cherry picked from commit 76c52656d3cceaf2b330cd79947f3e0e0d03c077)
a failed or timed-out gatt write doesn't throw, it comes back false, and buzz()
dropped that. the shortcut only mapped an exception to failed, so on a marginal
link it told the user the band buzzed when it never got the command. the
shortcut now asks the engine whether the write went through and answers
failed when it didn't.

(cherry picked from commit c426e27a0aeb4d3193c5ccdfe75edb1239d30160)
the fired event was already mapped from the strap's rtc frame into wall
time for the confirmation check, but the shown and persisted fire time
used the raw stamp, so a strap whose clock never latched reported the
alarm going off early or late by its drift. I use the mapped time for
both now.

(cherry picked from commit 19e0654845f4907695ff277cd87cbe52a7ad4b8a)
…idnight

the learned bedtime is a minute-of-day, so 00:30 arrives as 30. subtracting the
hour went negative, slipped under the quiet-hours ceiling and got raised to the
17:00 floor, so the latest sleepers got the earliest prompt. I wrap the slot now
and carry a small-hours result past midnight so the quiet-hours ceiling (or
23:59 with quiet hours off) pulls it back, and the test feeds the bedtime the
coach actually produces instead of 25*60.

Major · Functional Correctness · Heavy lift

Revisit cumulative findings after the day ends.

The partial-day behavior is intentional: it prevents false low steps and strain findings while their totals can still increase. However, the completed day is not evaluated later. The next evening sweep evaluates the new day, and the morning path does not run the sweep. A genuine low steps or strain anomaly can therefore be lost, while the evening briefing caches Nothing stood out tonight.

This is a regression from the merge base, where cumulative metrics were not marked partial and low findings were not suppressed. Re-evaluate the completed day without treating its incomplete total as final.

Minor · Data Integrity & Integration · Quick win

Preserve the request after a partial latch-clear failure.

When hasAt is true, the timestamp latch is cleared before the legacy latch. If the second saveWidgetData call fails, the catch returns null after erasing the valid request. The next resume therefore drops the alarm command. Clear only valid latches and restore cleared values on partial failure, or use one atomic request record. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Failed to generate code suggestions for PR

- a fire stamp mapped more than a few seconds ahead of the phone is a bad
clock mapping, not a fire to announce
- start-up catches its own failures, so clearing the pending reconcile when
  it ended let a failed start-up spend the lock-screen Finish on nothing;
only the reconcile clears it now
- the Siri alarm request clears the latch it returns last, so a failed
clear leaves the request on disk instead of erasing it

@coderabbitai on the two outside-diff notes:

  • widget_service.dart, the Siri alarm latch: right, the timestamp latch was cleared before the legacy one, so a failed second write erased the request it was about to return. it now clears the latch it returns last, so a failure leaves the request on disk for the next resume (f61d1b5).
  • briefing_engine.dart, partial cumulative lows: leaving this as is. before this change the sweep ran an hour before bed against a running total and reported "the lowest steps in N days" for a day that had not ended, which is a claim about an afternoon. holding back lows on an unfinished day trades those false findings for a missed true one on a genuinely quiet day. picking that up the next morning means the morning briefing reporting on yesterday's activity, which is a change to what that briefing is about rather than a fix to the sweep, so it is not going in here.

@abdulsaheel understood on both notes.

  • Siri alarm latch: I checked consumeEnableTomorrowAlarmRequest() in lib/widget/widget_service.dart. It now clears the selected latch last, for both timestamp and legacy requests. This addresses the write-order failure I flagged. I did not run tests.
  • Partial cumulative lows: I withdraw the suggestion to move those findings into the morning briefing. An unfinished running total cannot support a full-day low claim. Suppressing that claim is intentional, even when it means missing a genuinely low day. Changing the morning briefing’s scope is not required here.

Learning: Within repository "OpenStrap/edge", only for files matching one of ["lib/widget/widget_service.dart"]: When reviewing changes to Siri alarm request consumption in lib/widget/widget_service.dart, check the clear order for the timestamp and legacy weekday latches. After selecting which request to return, clear the other latch first and the selected latch last, so a failure clearing the other latch does not erase the selected request before it can be returned. Apply this check to both timestamp and legacy request branches.

## 4. Recurring bug patterns — what actually ships broken here

### 4.3 Sticky boolean latches never reset on the failure path

Self-identified as recurring in the repo's own commit messages ("same shape as
the foregroundActive bug from a couple days ago"). A flag is set, an error path
returns early without clearing it, and sync wedges until force-close. Known
instances: `foregroundActive`, `markForegroundIntent`, `_offloadActive`,
`_drainingOffloadFrames` (no `try/finally`), a sticky standard-HR fallback that
silently zeroed step calibration, and trusting a stale `isConnected`.
**Ask:** every flag set in this diff — is it cleared in `finally`, on timeout, and
on the give-up branch?

# AGENTS.md — OpenStrap `edge`

## 4. Recurring bug patterns — what actually ships broken here

### 4.1 Fabricated / non-abstaining metrics ("honesty" violations)

The project has an explicit never-impute rule and keeps breaking it. Instances:
two copies of a `100 - readiness` stress fallback; RHR falling back to daytime HR
("Readiness 100" ten minutes after first wear); literal `"null"` rendered for
oxygen dips; a skin-temp section gated on `spo2` presence; `StageBars` drawing an
*invisible gap* for an absent sleep stage; pace showing absurd numbers instead of
"—"; a false empty state instead of a retryable error; Bluetooth-off reported as
"no strap found". One is still open: stress shows a confident score on ~20 min of
data.
**Ask on any metric diff:** what does this return when the input is missing or
thin? Anything other than null/"—"/an honest low-confidence envelope is a bug.
