Thanks for sharing your feedback! We are planning to improve Vector with more themes in the following releases. Are there any apps for light themes you like in particular?
An app I've really enjoyed using is psstpsst; its light theme is gentle on the eyes。
On top of that, the UI is super minimalist. The bottom navigation has 'Chat', 'Contacts', and 'Me', which feels much more intuitive for most users. Vector, on the other hand, puts 'Me' as the first tab.
I've always thought Vector's 'Me' tab is a bit jarring. It could totally be merged with the settings, but then you'd only have two bottom tabs, which just doesn't feel right. Honestly, three bottom tabs is the sweet spot. Four is too many, and two is too few.
I see, thanks for sharing the reference. Looks like they got their design influence(s) from Telegram, Facebook, and Signal. Appreciate the feedback.
-- Edit --
I missed the bottom part of your response. Agree with the 3 being the sweet spot for icons. I think what we may consider, since Vector is more geared to larger communities and not just DMs and group chats, is likely have a tab for Chats (DM + Group), Communities, and Settings.
In theory, Profile ("Me") could be moved to Settings, but actually it is used more to share your personal profile card + QR code with easy access, instead of having to navigate in the Settings to find it. It is Profile > Share, that easy.
Why do you feel "Me" (Profile) being first is a bit jarring? Because you use this function less often than the Chats & Settings tab? That would make sense if that was the case. It was put there just for simplicity and access to share your contact. I see Telegram also has Me as the last tab, which is likely where the reference you shared got their design decision from.
Thanks again for all the feedback, it's been noted.
Dark themes are not ideal for use in bright environments, particularly on phones with lower screen brightness
