feat(dpa4c): support dipole and polarizability fitting (train, freeze, test) - #6109
DPA4C could only drive energy models: it returned rot_mat=None and get_dim_emb()==0, so dipole and polar fitting could not use it. Its degree-one moments are already exact equivariant vectors, one per channel. This PR exposes them and makes the pt_expt train → freeze → test pipeline work for DPA4C tensorial models.
1. feat(dpa4c): expose degree-one moments for tensorial fitting
New descriptor option output_rot_mat (default false). When set, rot_mat has shape (..., C_1, 3) and get_dim_emb() == C_1. The invariant output and the parameters are unchanged.
Serialization uses @version: 3 and writes the flag only when it is set. Models without the flag stay at version 2, so older releases can still read them.
enable_compression refuses the flag, because the fused kernel emits invariant features only.
New requires_graph_lower() capability on descriptors and atomic models; True for DPA4C. pt_expt previously defaulted only energy models to the graph route. A DPA4C dipole or polar model therefore fell back to the dense nlist, which DPA4C cannot run (sel=[999999]). Graph-only models now take the graph route in eager training for every output type.
enable_compile still covers energy models only, and now raises a clear error for these models instead of tracing the dense path.
2. feat(pt_expt): freeze and evaluate graph-only tensorial models
New model_exports_graph_lower() admits graph-only models of any output type for freeze, export and .pt checkpoint evaluation. The compiled-training check is unchanged.
DipoleModel and PolarModel gain forward_lower_graph_exportable. It keeps the internal keys of the common lower, which is also what dense tensorial artifacts use.
Graph artifacts record graph_output_keys ("energy" or "internal"), and _eval_model_graph reads internal keys by request name. Artifacts frozen before this change lack the field and are treated as energy artifacts.
Fix: pt_expt polar inference returned NaN for every polar model, whatever the descriptor. DeepPolar requests polar, but the fitting emits polarizability. Requests now go through an alias map on both the dense and graph paths.
C++/LAMMPS is not covered: DeepTensor.cc does not load pt_expt models. The docs say so.
Testing
All tests below were run on a Quadro RTX 8000 (CUDA, torch 2.10).
New tests:
test_descriptor_dpa4c.py::TestDPA4CRotMat:
rot_mat matches the degree-one moments computed by hand;
it transforms as a polar vector under rotation and reflection;
the flag leaves the descriptor unchanged;
serialization is version 2 without the flag and 3 with it.
pt_expt/descriptor/test_dpa4c.py:
dpmodel and pt_expt give the same rot_mat, through both the dense and graph calls;
gradients reach the radial network;
compression refuses the flag.
pt_expt/model/test_dpa4c_tensor.py:
graph routing for tensor models;
dipole and polar forward are equivariant;
parameters receive gradients.
pt_expt/infer/test_deep_eval_dpa4c_tensor.py:
freeze to a graph .pte and to the default .pt2, and evaluate the .pt checkpoint;
DeepDipole/DeepPolar match the eager forward for periodic and non-periodic frames;
dp test on water_tensor data;
the dense polar alias regression.
Regression: test_dp_freeze, test_dp_test, test_graph_deepeval, test_deep_eval_property, test_deep_eval_pt_checkpoint, test_graph_pt2_metadata, test_graph_export, the dipole/polar/DOS model tests, and all DPA4C tests: 345 passed, 1 skipped.
End to end, on examples/water_tensor with channels=32, lmax=2:
300-step dp --pt-expt train runs for dipole and polar with the tensor loss.
The frozen .pt2 and the .pt checkpoint give identical, finite dp --pt-expt test RMSEs.

DPA4C can expose degree-one moments for tensor fitting. Graph-lower capability now guides model routing, training, freezing, and serialization. Inference handles graph-only non-energy outputs, polarizability aliases, derivative layouts, and DOS counts.
The output_rot_mat option exposes degree-one moments to fitting networks without changing the invariant descriptor. Serialization records the option, and compression rejects it. Model construction checks that dipole and polar fittings have a descriptor embedding. Tests cover output shape, transformations, gradients, serialization, and compression.
Descriptors and atomic models report whether graph-lower execution is required. Model routing, training configuration, freezing, and serialization use that capability. Training rejects compilation for models that require but do not use the graph lower.
Graph export and tensor inference deepmd/pt_expt/utils/serialization.py, deepmd/pt_expt/infer/deep_eval.py, deepmd/pt_expt/model/dos_model.py, source/tests/pt_expt/infer/test_deep_eval_dpa4c_tensor.py
Serialization selects graph export methods and records whether graph outputs use energy or internal keys. Inference handles internal keys, polarizability aliases, derivative layouts, and DOS counts. Tests cover frozen archives, checkpoints, and eager-output comparisons.

This PR enables DPA4C dipole and polarizability models in DeePMD-kit’s experimental PyTorch backend, covering eager training, freezing, and Python inference.
Changes:
Exposes optional equivariant degree-one moments without changing invariant features.
Adds graph routing and tensor export support, and fixes polarizability output aliases.
Adds descriptor, model, and inference tests, plus usage documentation.
Reject omitted output_rot_mat for DPA4C tensor fittings.
The new schema accepts output_rot_mat as False, but DPA4C then passes gr=None to dipole or polar fitting. Both fitting implementations assert that gr is not None, so the configuration fails during execution. Reject this combination before constructing the fitting network.

DPA4C was invariant-only (rot_mat=None, get_dim_emb()==0), so the dipole
and polarizability fittings could not use it, although its degree-one
moments are exact equivariant vectors. The new `output_rot_mat` option
hands them to the fitting as rot_mat with shape (..., C_1, 3); it changes
neither the invariant output nor any parameter. A descriptor that sets it
serializes as version 3, others keep version 2, and compression, whose
fused kernel emits invariants only, refuses it.
DPA4C has no dense lower, but pt_expt defaulted only energy models to the
graph route, so a dipole or polar model fell onto an unservable dense
nlist. A new `requires_graph_lower()` capability (descriptor, atomic
models) routes graph-only models to the graph for every output in eager
training; compiled training stays energy-only and now rejects such models
with a clear error.

Automatic export can select an unsupported canonical exporter for non-energy models, and an existing regression test still asserts the renamed guard’s old text.
`dp --pt-expt freeze` and inference gated the graph lower on energy
models, so a DPA4C dipole or polar model was traced through the dense
nlist (sel=999999), and no non-energy model had a graph export.
- `model_exports_graph_lower()` admits graph-only models of any output for
freeze, export and `.pt` checkpoint evaluation.
- DipoleModel and PolarModel gain `forward_lower_graph_exportable`, which
keeps the internal keys of the common lower, as dense tensorial
artifacts do.
- Graph artifacts record `graph_output_keys` ("energy" or "internal");
`_eval_model_graph` reads internal keys by request name. Older artifacts
lack the field and stay energy.
- Fix pt_expt polar inference returning NaN: DeepPolar requests `polar`
while the fitting emits `polarizability`; requests now go through an
alias map on the dense and graph paths.

…graph-only output
Address review on the graph-only tensorial pipeline:
- The model lays per-atom derivatives out atom-major, (nf, natoms,
*shape, 3|9), but inference reshaped them straight into the
component-major (nf, *shape, natoms, 3|9) the API promises, mixing atom
and component indices of DeepDipole.eval_full force and atomic virial
for more than one atom. `_fold_output` moves the atom axis on both the
dense and graph paths; scalar (energy) outputs are unaffected.
- Graph-only DOS and property models were export-eligible without a
graph exporter. Every non-energy model now traces the common lower
with its internal keys, which replaces the per-model dipole and polar
exporters.
- pt_expt DOS inference reported numb_dos = 0: DOSModel now returns its
fitting width and DeepEval delegates to the model.

A dipole or polar fitting on a descriptor whose get_dim_emb() is 0 (DPA4C
with `output_rot_mat` false or omitted) was built with embedding_width=0
and failed only at the first forward, on a bare assertion. The shared
model factory now raises a ValueError at build time that names the
option to set.

`model_exports_graph_lower` lets graph-only non-energy models reach the
graph export and the eager graph forward. A compressed DPA4C model with a
scalar property or one-bin DOS head passes the DPA4C canonical fitting
check, so automatic `.pt2` export selected `dpa4c_canonical` and failed
for want of a canonical exporter, and the eager fused energy-force path
(DP_CUDA_INFER >= 2) would have summed an intensive property. Both now
serve energy models only; other outputs take the generic graph lower.
Also update the source-text test of the export guard to the renamed
`model_exports_graph_lower`.

An archive without model.json carries no dpmodel, so get_numb_dos
returned 0 and DeepDOS could not reshape its output. Fall back to the
`dos` shape of the fitting output metadata.

A property fitting names its output freely. One named `polar` was
dispatched to DeepPolar, because model_type matched the fixed output names
before the property's own, and its requests were rewritten to
`polarizability` by the request alias, returning NaN on the dense and
graph paths alike. model_type now matches the property name first, and
the alias applies only when the exact key is absent.

Name-based model classification incorrectly admits property models named 'energy' to the fused path, producing sums instead of requested means for intensive properties and causing DPA4C property-model freezing to fail.
Preserve graph export choice when compressing DPA4C property models
deepmd/pt_expt/entrypoints/main.py:597
For DPA4C DOS/property models without output_rot_mat, freeze(..., compress=True) delegates to compress_model, whose .pt2 export branch still checks model_uses_graph_lower and misses these newly graph-exportable models. It therefore calls deserialize_to_file with the default lower_kind='nlist', losing the graph choice made here and tracing DPA4C's oversized sel=[999999] neighbor list. Use model_exports_graph_lower in deepmd/pt_expt/entrypoints/compress.py:187 and add coverage through the public compressed-freeze path.

[P2] Preserve zero-atom inference when folding derivatives
The inferred -1 dimension is ambiguous when natoms == 0, so this new reshape raises instead of returning the supported empty force/atomic-virial arrays. This is already reproduced by exact-head Python shard 12: TestDeepPot_se_e2_a_.pte/.pt2::test_zero_input and TestDeepPot_fparam_aparam_.pte/.pt2::test_zero_input all fail here with ValueError: cannot reshape array of size 0 into shape (1,0,newaxis,3). The base implementation directly reshaped to the fully specified API shape and accepts these arrays. I also executed this exact helper with empty force and atomic-virial outputs: both widths 3 and 9 fail, while the prior reshape succeeds. Handle empty outputs before this inferred reshape (or supply the explicit component width), retaining the component-major transpose for nonempty tensor outputs.

✅ Project coverage is 76.91%. Comparing base (1ded5d2) to head (a7ea56f).
The change gives DPA4C an equivariant output (output_rot_mat) and makes the graph-only descriptor usable for the dipole and polar fittings, together with the routing split (requires_graph_lower / model_exports_graph_lower), the non-energy graph export (graph_output_keys, forward_common_lower_graph_exportable), and the inference fixes (the polar request alias and the component-major fold of tensor derivatives). I checked the wiring end to end on the pinned head: the rot_mat layout matches the fitting's out @ gr contraction, _fold_output reproduces the API convention for force and atom virial and is a no-op for every energy output, the version-2/version-3 serialization round trip restores the flag, and the graph output-key metadata is backward compatible for artifacts that predate it.
The remaining observations are non-blocking and need no change for this PR: the training leg for a DPA4C tensor model has no committed test (the requires_graph_lower disjunct in _configure_neighbor_graph_method is never decisive in the suite, and the new enable_compile rejection is unexercised); the new canonical-gating test is marked CUDA-only although its body runs on CPU, so the default CPU CI skips it; LinearAtomicModel.requires_graph_lower aggregates with any() while uses_graph_lower uses all(), so a composition mixing a graph-only child with a dense-only child would be reported as graph-exportable; and two user-facing texts still describe graph eligibility in terms of uses_graph_lower() only (the freeze error message and the neighbor_graph_method documentation and error).
