What

A Docker image, ghcr.io/donislawdev/tfg, for linux/amd64 and linux/arm64, holding the command line of a release and nothing else (FROM scratch, non-root user 65532, ENTRYPOINT ["/tfg"], the licence notices in /licenses/).

.github/workflows/docker.yml:

  1. which - the release (from the event, by hand, or the latest one for a pull request). Refuses a draft.
  2. image, on ubuntu-latest and ubuntu-24.04-arm (nothing emulated) - downloads the Linux archive, holds it to verify-SHA256SUMS.txt and to the attestation release.yml made (--signer-workflow), builds, then runs the image the way a person does:
    • every format through the image and through the archive's own program, all files byte equal;
    • nothing mounted: refused with exit code 5;
    • docker stop during a run: 143, and the manifest verifies.
  3. publish (never on a pull request) - pushes the images that were tried, joins them under the version tag (and latest for the newest release), attests with push-to-registry.

A pull request touching the image builds and tries it against the latest release and pushes nothing - this PR is the first such run.

README: install with Docker, and a GitHub Actions section with the image on Linux runners and a step that installs tfg on Windows and macOS runners.

verify-release.yml no longer checks the published page text against .github/release-note-must-say.txt. The page is written by hand, and the check went red on 0.2.0, 0.4.0 and 0.5.0 while every file, sum and signature checked out. release.yml still checks the note it generates.

Packaging guards now render the real v0.5.0 (the first release with the installer) instead of v0.4.0 with a made-up installer line. Sums and versions are found by file name in the fixture, not copied or counted by position.

Measured before the push

  • Probe image built from the v0.5.0 archives: 15.6 MB (amd64), 14.3 MB (arm64). Eight formats from both images and from the Windows build of the same commit: every checksum equal.
  • The image job's scripts, extracted from this docker.yml and run unchanged in Linux (WSL, amd64): 31 formats byte equal, exit 5 with nothing mounted, docker stop gave 143 with 30 files and a manifest that verifies.
  • The archive check fails and unpacks nothing when --signer-workflow names another workflow.
  • Per-architecture push, imagetools create and the digest lookup, tried against a local registry.
  • The README commands run as written: PowerShell (Windows), bash with --user and the README recipe (Linux, 28 files), and the install step on Windows, Linux and a Mac (tfg version = 0.5.0 on all three).

Not checked

  • The arm64 runner path and the real push to ghcr.io - the first can only run here, the second only after merge (a run by hand for v0.5.0). The first push creates the package as private, it has to be made public once in its settings.
  • ghcr.io will show no description for the multi-arch package: an index built from images pushed with docker push carries no annotations (measured locally, the annotation is dropped silently).

Guards

  • TestTheImageHoldsTheReleasedProgramAndNothingElse, TestTheImageIsMadeOfAReleaseThatCheckedOut, TestOnlyAnImageThatWasTriedIsPushed
  • TestEveryVersionTheReadmeWritesOutIsThisOne (the image tag, the install step, the example manifest)
  • TestWhatAReleaseNoteHasToSayIsDecidedInOnePlace now also fails if the page check comes back to verify-release.yml
  • 15 new mutation entries (1829 to 1844), 2 moved off the removed step, 1 replaced

Workflow changes: merge from the browser.

…ops checking the page text

The command line as ghcr.io/donislawdev/tfg, for linux/amd64 and
linux/arm64. docker.yml takes the Linux archive of a published release,
holds it to the release checksum and to the attestation release.yml made,
builds FROM scratch on a runner of each architecture, and runs the image
against the archive's own program (every format, byte equal), with nothing
mounted (exit 5) and through docker stop (143 and a manifest that
verifies). Only then are the images pushed, joined under the version tag
and attested. A pull request that touches the image tries it and pushes
nothing. README shows the image and a step that installs tfg on Windows
and macOS runners, and a guard holds every version README writes out to
this build.

verify-release.yml no longer holds the published page to the list of
sentences: the page is written by hand and the check went red on three
releases whose files all checked out. The packaging guards now render the
real v0.5.0, the first release with the installer.

📝 Walkthrough

The changes add a verified, multi-architecture Docker image and installation guidance. They also remove published release-page wording checks and update packaging test fixtures to use version-derived release data.

Changes: Docker Image Delivery

Layer / File(s) Summary
Image contract and installation guidance
.github/docker/Dockerfile, README.md, CHANGELOG.md, internal/guard/dockerimage_test.go, internal/guard/readmeversion_test.go, internal/guard/mutation/entries.py
The image contains the release binary and license notices, runs as UID/GID 65532:65532, and uses /work. The README and changelog describe Docker use and platform-specific installation. Guard tests check the image contract and README versions.
Release selection, image build, and validation
.github/workflows/docker.yml, internal/guard/dockerimage_test.go
The workflow selects a release, verifies its archive checksum and attestation, then builds and tests images for amd64 and arm64. Tests compare image output with the release program and check mount and stop behavior.
Tested-image publishing
.github/workflows/docker.yml, internal/guard/dockerimage_test.go, internal/guard/mutation/entries.py
The publish job pushes tested architecture images, creates a version manifest, conditionally updates latest, and publishes build provenance. Guard and mutation cases check workflow publishing controls.

Published Release-Page Checks

Layer / File(s) Summary
Published-page verification scope
.github/workflows/verify-release.yml, internal/guard/releasenote_test.go, internal/guard/mutation/entries.py
The verification workflow removes the published-page wording check and its verdict reporting. Guards require the release workflow to check generated notes and no longer require the verification workflow to check the published page.

Packaging Test Fixtures

Layer / File(s) Summary
Versioned packaging fixtures and refusal cases
internal/guard/packaging_test.go, internal/guard/packagingrefusal_test.go
Packaging tests derive release versions and checksums from shared fixture helpers. Refusal cases use those fixtures for missing-installer and unreleased-version scenarios.

Full details: Tests For Changed Behavior

Explanation

PASS. The PR adds Docker image runtime behavior and release-workflow behavior, and it adds coverage for both. internal/guard/dockerimage_test.go checks the scratch image contents, non-root user, entrypoint, checksum and attestation order, publish permissions, publish dependencies, and byte comparison. .github/workflows/docker.yml also runs the image on both architectures and checks output, refusal, file equality, and stop behavior. The release-note check removal has explicit justification in the PR description, and releasenote_test.go updates its assertions to require the new wiring. No tests were deleted or skipped without justification, and the packaging test changes retain the existing test cases.

Full details: No Hardcoded Ui Styling

Explanation

The pull request changes Docker configuration, GitHub Actions workflows, Markdown documentation, and release/packaging guard tests. The reviewed diff contains no XAML, Slint, Fyne, Tkinter, or WPF UI code. The UI styling check is not applicable.

Full details: Desktop Robustness

Explanation

No explicit desktop-robustness failure is introduced. The PR changes Docker/workflow/docs and guard tests, not desktop application behavior: no working-directory asset loading, settings/data persistence, culture-sensitive number/date handling, UI long operation, destructive action, shutdown background work, or admin-rights request is added. The new release downloads and registry pushes are CI operations described in .github/workflows/docker.yml and the PR/README. The runtime image is explicitly tested and documented with --network none, and the Dockerfile states that the program never opens a connection.

Full details: System Changes Are Reversible

Explanation

The PR adds a scratch Docker image and GitHub Actions workflow. It does not add code that changes host network rules, proxies, firewalls, system time, hooks, Windows services, drivers, or the system registry. Docker uses an isolated --network none mode, scoped volume mounts, and container stop/remove operations. The registry operations publish the image to GHCR; they do not modify the runner's system state.

Full details: Scope, Duplication And Docs

Explanation

The reviewed changes match the stated scope. The Docker image and workflow, removal of the published-page text check, README and CHANGELOG updates, release-note guard changes, packaging-fixture refresh, and mutation entries are all described in the PR title or description. The repository had no existing project Docker image to duplicate, and the new release verification steps are workflow-specific. User-facing Docker and GitHub Actions behavior is documented in README.md and CHANGELOG.md. No public API, CLI, configuration format, or persisted data format changed.

Full details: No Secrets Or Debug Leftovers

Explanation

The new workflow contains leftover diagnostic output at .github/workflows/docker.yml:215: docker logs stopped 2>&1 | tail -2. The output is not used by any check and only prints container logs during the stop test. Other credential-like values use GitHub runtime secrets, and no hardcoded secret or private email was found.

Resolution

Remove the docker logs stopped 2>&1 | tail -2 line. Keep the exit-code and manifest checks as the test evidence.

Full details: No Obvious Performance Problems

Explanation

The new image workflow starts a separate docker run and a separate context/tfg process for every format in .github/workflows/docker.yml (lines 169-174). The workflow tests all formats on both architectures, so this creates dozens of container and binary startups per job. The CLI already accepts recipes with multiple targets (internal/cli/generate.go, lines 218-240), so the formats can be generated in batch.

Resolution

Create a temporary multi-target recipe with one target per format. Run that recipe once in the image and once with the released binary for each architecture. Keep the per-format output paths and byte comparison, but remove the per-format docker run and context/tfg generate calls.

Full details: Safe File Parsing

Explanation

The new workflow uses GNU tar -xzf "$archive" -C ../context at .github/workflows/docker.yml:134 before it validates archive members. The checksum and attestation authenticate the archive, but they do not prevent absolute or parent paths, links, duplicate names, devices, or oversized input. The later test -f "../context/$file" also follows a link. This can write or read outside the intended extraction directory and can consume excessive resources on malformed input.

Resolution

Replace tar -xzf with a bounded archive validator and extractor. Use Python tarfile.TarFile iteration to reject absolute/.. paths, symlinks, hardlinks, devices, duplicate normalized names, non-regular entries, excessive member counts, and excessive declared unpacked size. Extract only after validation with extractall(filter="data") into a fresh directory. Check the required files with os.lstat and require regular, non-link files instead of test -f.

Full details: Clear User-Facing Text

Explanation

The PR adds user-facing README, changelog, workflow-input, and workflow-log text. Several new workflow errors state the failure but not the next action, for example the image says $said, the release is $VERSION (docker.yml:162), $count formats asked for... (181), and the stopped run wrote no file in 60 s (207). The public prose also says x64 and Arm, while the archive and workflow use amd64 and arm64, which names the same platforms differently.

Resolution

Add an action to each new workflow error, such as Rebuild the image from the selected release or fix the release selection, Fix the format comparison before publishing, and Check why generation did not produce a file within 60 seconds. Standardize the platform wording to amd64 and arm64, or define the x64 = amd64 and Arm = arm64 mapping once and use it consistently.

Full details: No Resource Leaks

Explanation

The new Docker workflow starts a detached container named stopped at .github/workflows/docker.yml:201-203, but removes it only at line 216 on the success path. set -e exits on the 60-second timeout, docker stop, docker inspect, or docker logs errors, leaving the container running or stopped. This leaks a process/container resource until runner cleanup.

Resolution

Install an EXIT trap immediately after starting stopped that runs docker rm -f stopped >/dev/null 2>&1 || true, and remove the container through that cleanup path on success and error. Optionally remove any stale stopped container before starting it. Also place Docker registry logout in cleanup if credential files must be removed when publish commands fail.

credentials from ~/.docker/config.json, so the first publish would have
stopped after the tags were public. The logout is now its own step after
the attestation, on always(), and a guard holds that order.

The README install step for Windows and macOS runners checks the
attestation as well as the checksum, before it unpacks. It names the SPDX
predicate, the only statement the signed Windows and macOS archives verify
against (measured on v0.5.0), and SECURITY.md now says the same instead
of pointing at the build provenance, which fits only the unsigned Linux
archives.

The packaging guards build the WinGet paths, the installer address and
its checksum from the fixture, and the negative release note guard also
rejects verify-release.yml reading the list of sentences directly.
