📚 Description

this pr adds a new option, "Open http://localhost:3000 in browser," when the server is already running. "Take over" is a great feature that I no longer need to concer too much of the existing server is running to debug the page, however, it kinda makes me develop the bad habit of run the dev server anyway instead of spending time finding the tab. This results in me always doing "take over", but in most cases, recompiling is not even necessary - I just want to find the page. Thus I am thinking to add this new option to make it more efficient:

The prompt now reads:
○ Take over port 3000
○ Do not start (--no-takeover)
○ Open http://localhost:3000 in browser
○ Start anyway

Install footprint and published tarball

Each version installed on its own into an empty project with nothing but @nuxt/cli as a dependency, so the tree is exactly the CLI and its transitive dependencies. npm cache is warm and the registry is only consulted for metadata, so install wall time is indicative, not a network benchmark.

Interleaved runs on a shared runner: trust the deltas, not the absolute timings. The dev, restart and build suites run locally via pnpm bench:cli.

📝 Walkthrough

The takeover prompt now offers an option to open an existing server URL in a browser when the server has a URL. Selecting this option opens the URL and returns an opened result without stopping the server. The dev and preview commands exit successfully when they receive that result.

@antfu are you running nuxt dev with --open at the moment? if so, I think we don't need an extra option, just that whichever you pick, whether take over or not, we open the url...
