Issue

Query with deeply nested field-level operators fails only that request.

Tasks

  • Add tests

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests
    • Added coverage for deeply nested queries in standard requests and Live Query subscriptions, verifying that rejected requests do not prevent subsequent queries from succeeding.

🚀 Thanks for opening this pull request! We appreciate your effort in improving the project. Please let us know once your pull request is ready for review.

Tip

  • Keep pull requests small. Large PRs will be rejected. Break complex features into smaller, incremental PRs.
  • Use Test Driven Development. Write failing tests before implementing functionality. Ensure tests pass.
  • Group code into logical blocks. Add a short comment before each block to explain its purpose.
  • We offer conceptual guidance. Coding is up to you. PRs must be merge-ready for human review.
  • Our review focuses on concept, not quality. PRs with code issues will be rejected. Use an AI agent.
  • Human review time is precious. Avoid review ping-pong. Inspect and test your AI-generated code.

Note

Please respond to review comments from AI agents just like you would to comments from a human reviewer. Let the reviewer resolve their own comments, unless they have reviewed and accepted your commit, or agreed with your explanation for why the feedback was incorrect.

Caution

Pull requests must be written using an AI agent with human supervision. Pull requests written entirely by a human will likely be rejected, because of lower code quality, higher review effort and the higher risk of introducing bugs. Please note that AI review comments on this pull request alone do not satisfy this requirement. Our CI and AI review are safeguards, not development tools. If many issues are flagged, rethink your development approach. Invest more effort in planning and design rather than using review cycles to fix low-quality code.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Adds tests for deeply nested $elemMatch queries in REST request handling and Live Query subscriptions. The tests check request rejection, client error reporting, and that rejected subscriptions create no subscriptions.

Changes

Query Depth Tests

Layer / File(s) Summary
REST request complexity tests
spec/RequestComplexity.spec.js
Tests send requests with 2,500 nested $elemMatch wrappers for queryDepth values of 1 and -1. Each case checks that a subsequent empty query returns HTTP 200.
Live Query subscription test
spec/ParseLiveQueryServer.spec.js
Tests that a subscription with 10,000 nested $elemMatch wrappers reports an error to the client and creates no subscriptions when the query-depth limit is 1.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to b2686

The added tests check request recovery and Live Query error handling without establishing a remaining merge-blocking issue. The PR is mergeable after normal checks.

556-556: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Assert an HTTP error response.

find(where) can reject for an HTTP error response or a transport error. The later 200 assertion checks only the subsequent request. It does not prove that the deeply nested request returned an HTTP error.

Suggested fix
-        await expectAsync(find(where)).toBeRejected();
+        await expectAsync(find(where)).toBeRejectedWith(
+          jasmine.objectContaining({ status: jasmine.any(Number) })

Update the `find(where)` rejection assertion in the deeply nested request test
to verify the rejection includes a numeric HTTP status, so it distinguishes an
HTTP error response from a transport error.

341-365: 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Assert the websocket error payload

Client.pushError is replaced with a bare spy in this suite, so the current test cannot exercise serialization or parseWebSocket.send. Add a send spy, restore the real Client export for this test, and call through the pushError spy. Assert the parsed error frame. Keep the existing no-subscription assertion.

Suggested fix
     const parseLiveQueryServer = new ParseLiveQueryServer({});
     const clientId = 1;
     addMockClient(parseLiveQueryServer, clientId);
-    const parseWebSocket = { clientId };
+    const send = jasmine.createSpy('send');
+    const parseWebSocket = { clientId, send };
+    jasmine.restoreLibrary('../lib/LiveQuery/Client', 'Client');
+    const Client = require('../lib/LiveQuery/Client').Client;
+    spyOn(Client, 'pushError').and.callThrough();
     let where = { name: 'x' };
...
-    const Client = require('../lib/LiveQuery/Client').Client;
     expect(Client.pushError).toHaveBeenCalledWith(
       jasmine.anything(),
       jasmine.anything(),
       jasmine.any(String),
       false,
       5
     );
+    expect(send).toHaveBeenCalledWith(jasmine.any(String));
+    expect(JSON.parse(send.calls.mostRecent().args[0])).toEqual(
+      jasmine.objectContaining({
+        op: 'error',
+        reconnect: false,
+        requestId: 5,
+      })
+    );
     expect(parseLiveQueryServer.subscriptions.size).toBe(0);

Re the nitpick on spec/ParseLiveQueryServer.spec.js (assert the websocket error payload): not adopting. This suite mocks Client (and Subscription/QueryTools) by design, and the sibling query depth tests assert the same pushError call; frame serialization by Client.pushError is covered in spec/Client.spec.js.
