A huge thank you to everyone who submitted their designs!
Together with the jury we carefully reviewed all entries and selected a shortlist. Our main criteria were how well the task was understood, the effort put into the submission, and the personal touch that made each design unique.
Because GitHub doesn't allow resetting reactions on issues, we're using this dedicated "Voting" meta issue for the community vote.
Each shortlisted design has its own comment below, please give a π reaction to the comments below with the designs you like most.
To give everyone enough time to review all shortlisted entries, we're extending the voting period until November 2.
The winner will be announced on November 4.

Hello @pronskiy,
I have noticed that some designs stick closely to the existing php.net style, while others go for a full redesign. I think the goal was to keep the current brand style and just refresh the release page. Is it fair to compare both approaches together, or am I misunderstanding the requirements? π€

I agree. I followed the brief assuming the goal was to modernize the release page while keeping it visually aligned with already existing design of php.net.
If I had known that full rebranding directions were welcome, I would have approached the contest differently.

@vstelmakh, @everlastedSE, good point and you're right, the original brief did say to stay on-brand with the current php.net style.
When we reviewed submissions, we noticed two directions:
designs that stick closely to the current php.net look
bolder reimaginations of what PHP could look like in the future
Both showed a lot of effort and creativity so we decided to keep a mix in the shortlist. The only ones we excluded were those that clearly had less work put in.
This contest is also a bit of an experiment for us to see what kind of ideas appear and learn from the process. This is exactly why the scope was just one page, and not the whole website. We'll definitely learn from this and adjust next time.
Anyway, thanks for raising this! It's a fair point and helps explain the process now and hopefully make it better in the future π
In the meantime, please do not use this thread for discussions. Use Meta issue for that: #1472
