Add an explicit Automatic/Software image-decoding setting in both settings interfaces and show an existing default cover when an image is missing or fails. Keep caller-supplied image builders able to override the defaults. Software mode retains the existing network client, headers and caches.
This is independent of the runtime error-retry proposal #3287: Automatic keeps the current loader behavior, while Software explicitly disables hardware bitmaps. The small preference interceptor is separate so this proposal does not duplicate the runtime retry implementation. Missing artwork, HTTP failures and provider metadata are not claimed repaired.
Physical image-loading and settings UI checks are still pending. No universal-device compatibility or measured performance improvement is claimed.
