own writes a value, not a removal, so the pin cannot route the session right back; the capture gate admits an override an unrouted agent's session would otherwise strand; a session with a pin strips on its first routed request, so a strict target cannot 403 it forever; server remove refuses while a sessions entry names the server, which would leave a config the proxy cannot reload or start from; the notice renders on the sessions pane; the picker opens on the server the session uses; the prune reads the archived list; under observe an override moves no pin. Do not label an agentless session's in-flight write as unknown.
When a session has no Agent, the code sets the picker's agent to "unknown". applyServerChoice copies that value into serverSwitch. serverSwitch.text() then renders the in-flight footer as "switching unknown → ete…" instead of naming the session. The final flash is correct because sessionSwitchedText keys on session. Only the progress text is wrong. The same text names the agent even when a session with an agent is moved. That wording suggests the agent's routing is changing. Render the session in serverSwitch.text() when session != "".

Apply session overrides when pin storage is unavailable.
When pinsFor returns nil, serverFor returns the agent choice before it reaches this override check. An explicit move therefore does not route the session. For an agent without a route, Line 314 can admit the captured request, but serverFor then leaves it at the client-selected host. Select the override before the no-store return; disable only pin persistence when storage is unavailable.

Qualify the opt-in rule for session overrides.
The following sentence says that an agent absent from agents is not routed. A non-empty sessions: override does route that agent’s named session, as TestRouter_ASessionsOverrideRoutesAnUnroutedAgentsSession demonstrates. State that unlisted agents remain unrouted unless a session override selects a server.

This adds sessions: overrides to the inference-router, plus the reasoning strip that makes a moved history acceptable to the new server. The override and pin handling are careful and well tested. The origin record that gates the strip has two holes, each confirmed with a failing test at 838a810:
- A session that was never moved, but has a pin and no origin record, goes
(foreign)for good and strips its own reasoning every turn. That covers every routed session running at upgrade, and any session whose origin expires (30-day TTL) while its pin keeps being renewed. - A move to
ownand back leaves the origin stale, so the own provider's signed thinking goes to the target unstripped. That is the Bedrock 403 the strip is meant to prevent.
Both fixes are small; suggestions are inline. Of CodeRabbit's other items I'd also take the reserved-word one: CheckName accepts a server named own, which server move <id> own can't reach. The rest overlap the PR's deferred list.

must-fix — An unmoved session with a pin and no origin record goes (foreign) and strips its own reasoning on every turn.
hasPriorPin is true for every routed session, so when the origin record is missing this branch always picks originForeign. There are two ways to get here without any move:
- Upgrade. Every routed session already running when this ships has a pin and no
origin/key. Its next request goes foreign for good, and from then on it strips its own server's thinking on every turn. - Expiry.
keepOriginwrites withpinTTL, and the steady state (origin == server, line 178) never rewrites it.store.keeprenews the pin on every request, though, so after 30 days of continuous use the origin expires under a live pin and the same thing happens.
That contradicts the spec's steady-state rule ("records and keeps origin == target and strips nothing"), and it records modify/reasoning_stripped on sessions nobody moved. Repro (fails at 838a810):
func TestRouter_APinnedSessionWithNoOriginKeepsItsOwnReasoning(t *testing.T) {
store := newStore(t)
p := build(t, routerConfig(`"claude-code": "glm"`))
first := request(store, eteHost, claudeUA, "s1")
first.Body = []byte(`{"model":"claude-opus-5-5","max_tokens":8,"messages":[{"role":"user","content":"hi"}]}`)
run(t, p, first)
store.Delete(originPrefix + "s1") // pre-upgrade, or expired under a renewed pin
second := request(store, eteHost, claudeUA, "s1")
second.Body = anthropicBodyWithThinking()
run(t, p, second)
assertNoInvocation(t, second, "reasoning_stripped") // fails: blocks=1, origin (foreign)
}Suggested fix: a pin from this agent that names the target is provenance. Overrides now always write an origin, so a session pinned to server with no origin record has only ever run on server. Seed the origin with server there (prior.state == pinExisting), and renew the origin's TTL wherever the pin is renewed.
| return | ||
| } | ||
| origin := p.origin(pctx, key) | ||
| if origin == server { |
There was a problem hiding this comment.
must-fix — Moving a session to own and back leaves its origin stale, so the own provider's signed thinking reaches the target unstripped.
stripForeign runs only on redirected requests, so the not-routed branch in OnRequest never touches the origin. Take a session that starts on ete: its origin is ete. server move <id> own sends its turns to the client's provider, which signs its own thinking, and the origin stays ete. server move <id> ete brings it back, and this line sees origin == server and returns. Every later turn sends the provider's signatures to ete, and a Bedrock-backed target 403s them on every turn. That is the failure the strip exists to prevent, and the session stays stuck until it is moved again. CodeRabbit flagged the same path. Repro (fails at 838a810: no reasoning_stripped on the return):
func TestRouter_AMoveToOwnAndBackStripsTheProvidersReasoning(t *testing.T) {
store := newStore(t)
first := request(store, "api.anthropic.com", claudeUA, "s1")
first.Body = []byte(`{"model":"claude-opus-5-5","max_tokens":8,"messages":[{"role":"user","content":"hi"}]}`)
run(t, build(t, routerConfig(`"claude-code": "ete"`)), first) // origin = ete
mid := request(store, "api.anthropic.com", claudeUA, "s1")
mid.Body = anthropicBodyWithThinking()
run(t, build(t, sessionsConfig(`"claude-code": "ete"`, `"s1": ""`)), mid) // unrouted
last := request(store, "api.anthropic.com", claudeUA, "s1")
last.Body = anthropicBodyWithThinking()
run(t, build(t, sessionsConfig(`"claude-code": "ete"`, `"s1": "ete"`)), last)
assertAnyRecord(t, last, pipeline.ActionModify, "reasoning_stripped", map[string]string{"blocks": "1"})
}Suggested fix: in the not-routed branch (plugin.go:328), when pin.state == pinMoved and the router is not observing, set the origin to originForeign. That is the request that moves the session off a server. Because the sentinel is sticky, one write covers the rest of the session.

suggestion — The prune can remove the entry this move just set.
SetPluginConfig applies the changes in order. When sid already has a sessions: entry and the archived listing doesn't hold it (archive off, or the session not seen since a restart), PruneSessions emits a removal for sid after SessionChanges sets it. The net write deletes the entry, but the report still says Session <id> → <server>.
The PR body lists this as deferred. The fix is one line, and it stops the report claiming the opposite of what was written: pass sid to pruneFrom and set live[sid] = true before calling PruneSessions. CodeRabbit raised the same thing.

nit — openSessionServerPicker was inserted between applyServerChoice's doc block (lines 180–195) and its func. What
Son a session row (andagentop server move <session-id> <server|own>) moves a running session to another inference server — the one deliberate exception to "nothing moves a running conversation," an explicit user instruction the router does not second-guess. Asessions:map in the inference-router's config names the moves; it beats the session's pin and settles it, so removing the entry later does not move the session back.What makes the moved history acceptable is a format-level strip: on a request whose target differs from the server that produced its reasoning, the artifacts only their producer can validate are dropped —
thinking/redacted_thinkingblocks (Anthropic) andreasoningitems (responses). Chat-completions bodies are never touched; their reasoning fields are plain text every server measured accepts. Provenance is one per-session record with the pin's TTL; once a session's target has differed from its recorded origin, the origin is(foreign)for good, because the client re-sends its own unstripped history however many turns pass. No per-server knowledge, no error-text matching.Why it is safe (measured, 2026-10-16)
Cross-server continuation was probed directly against ete-int, ete-ext, glm and ollama in all three wire formats. Every path continues the conversation correctly once producer-bound reasoning is dropped; the only failures without the strip are Bedrock refusing foreign signatures (403) or missing ones (400), and vLLM refusing
encrypted_content. Anthropic thinking text is empty (encrypted), so dropping it loses nothing; glm/ollama reasoning text is readable and its loss was measured harmless to continuation. The spec records the full matrix.The pieces

Fix round 1 (838a810)
A two-session review of the branch found two further must-fixes, both fixed with failing-first tests: a session that ran on its own provider holds no pin, so its move seeded the reasoning origin with the target and never stripped (the origin now also reads the session's recorded history, so a reasoning-free one-shot cannot hide a prior life); and an own ("") override moved the session's pin under

A second two-session delta review of the round returned APPROVE from both sessions, 0 must-fix.Deferred from the reviews (not fixed): the picker title carries the full session id rather than the first 8 characters; the in-flight footer says "switching → …" during a session move; the picker offers the session's current server; a thinking-only assistant turn dropped between two user turns would leave
