under memory pressure the monitor now locks every loaded model on every tick, even ones with nothing to free. On SGLang workers that drains in-flight batches, and there’s no timeout. It also runs empty_cache() when nothing is held, and its non-blocking path can still block.
The memory monitor no longer takes a model's inference lock when the adapter has nothing to drop, so SGLang and other no-op adapters are not drained on a pressure tick. empty_cache runs only after GLiClass has actually dropped graphs. block=False skips a busy model instead of waiting on its lock or a worker thread, and a release that does run is bounded by the same 5s wait as eviction. Timing out logs and continues; it does not unload the model. A 0-byte release still leaves eviction to pressure. Refs superlinked#370

The monitor no longer locks a loaded model that has nothing to free. Adapters now expose has_releasable_memory(), which defaults to false; GLiClass returns true only when its graph runner is holding graphs or their buffers. release_optional_memory is called only when that predicate is true, so SGLang and every other no-op adapter are not locked on a monitor tick. empty_cache() runs only after graphs were actually dropped. A GLiClass adapter with no runner, or a runner that is holding nothing, does not call it. The non-blocking path does not wait. block=False skips a model whose inference lock is held or already has a waiter, and it skips a concurrent worker that does not have every dispatch slot free, instead of draining in-flight batches. When there is no worker, block=False does not to_thread the adapter call either. A release that does run is bounded by 5 seconds, the same wait as the eviction lock. On timeout the monitor logs and continues. The timeout does not unload that model; a release still in flight is left resident so unload does not join the inference thread. If pressure remains, another model can still be evicted, and a 0-byte release does not skip eviction. 3015-3018: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | 💤 Low valueA worker-less adapter that reports releasable memory is never released.
Both production callers pass
block=False: the memory monitor at Line 3286 and OOM recovery at Line 2931. For a model withloaded.worker is None, this branch then returns 0 without calling the adapter. The only adapter that reports releasable memory is GLiClass, and it normally runs with a worker, so the practical impact is small. The docstring states that this skip is intended. However, the comment at Line 3016 says blocking callers still run the adapter. No caller passesblock=True, so that path is dead code today. Add a log line or a test so the silent skip is visible. You can also remove the unusedblock=Truebranch.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

350-354: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | 💤 Low valueOwn-model OOM release can run concurrently with forwards on wide workers.
BatchExecutorcallsadapter.release_optional_memorydirectly on the event-loop thread. The comment says recovery already holds the dispatch lock. That is true only when_dispatch_width == 1. When the width is greater than 1, recovery holds only one dispatch slot. In that case, other batches can still run forwards on other inference threads whilerunner.clear()drops their graphs. Today this does not happen in practice: wide adapters (SGLang) defaulthas_releasable_memoryto false, and GLiClass uses width 1. The safety therefore depends on an unstated invariant. The fix is either to skip the own-model release when_dispatch_width > 1, or to state the invariant in the comment.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Thanks, this round addresses the main concerns. The monitor skips models with nothing to release, the release wait is bounded, empty_cache() no longer runs when nothing is held, and the non-blocking path no longer queues behind a woken waiter.
Remaining items:
- OOM recovery test. #370's acceptance asks that OOM recovery releases graph memory before it evicts a model.
test_eviction_pathuses anAsyncMockregistry, so the sibling release returns 0 and that path is not exercised. Could you add a test with a real registry where a sibling holds releasable memory and the release runs beforeevict_lru_excluding? A positive multi-slot worker case would also help. - Dead parameter. Both registry call sites pass
block=False(registry.py:2931and:3286), so theblock=Truebranches are unused. Please drop the parameter or the unused branches. - Comments. The comment at
oom_recovery.py:219says the release runs "when that step did not run", but the call below it is unconditional. "None in tests that do not care" atoom_recovery.py:141is test-facing and can go. Comments that state a real constraint, like the dispatch-lock note atmodel_worker.py:350, are worth keeping. - Small. The
isinstance(released, bool)guard now appears in several places. One shared helper would keep the validation in one spot.
OOM recovery now has a registry test where a sibling's optional memory is released before eviction. Drop the unused block flag so release always skips a busy model, and route every byte count through one helper that rejects a bool. Refs superlinked#370

A timed-out graph release still holds the inference thread. Unload waits for that thread with no deadline, so evict_lru_excluding now skips a sibling the same way the memory monitor does. The GLiClass package initializer no longer imports released_bytes. The byte check stays next to the graph clear. Refs superlinked#370

Thanks, the test and cleanup items from the last round all look good. CI found one regression though: CI / Python fails 14 existing tests in tests/core/test_worker_concurrent_dispatch.py and tests/core/test_worker_preformed.py with AttributeError: '_GatedAdapter' object has no attribute 'release_optional_memory' (and the same for RecordingAdapter).
ModelWorker reads adapter.release_optional_memory directly (model_worker.py:348 and :585), while has_releasable_memory is read through getattr at :116. Adapters that do not inherit the base class now fail when the worker is built. Reading the release hook through getattr as well, and treating a missing hook as nothing to release, should fix it and keeps duck-typed adapters working as on main.
Two optional points from the earlier pass, here or later:
_release_loaded_optional_memoryreturns 0 when a release for the same model is already running, and eviction then skips that model. If the memory monitor is mid-release on a sibling when an OOM lands, recovery gets nothing from it and cannot evict it. Waiting on the existing task within the same 5 s bound would limit the skip to releases that are actually stuck.- The inline bool guard in the GLiClass adapter can use the shared
released_byteshelper.
ModelWorker read adapter.release_optional_memory directly, so duck-typed adapters such as _GatedAdapter and RecordingAdapter raised AttributeError while the worker was built. A missing hook now releases nothing. An optional-memory release that is already running is waited on within the same 5s bound. Its byte count is used when it finishes in time; a release that is still running after that wait stays excluded from eviction. GLiClass release_optional_memory reports bytes through the shared released_bytes helper. Refs superlinked#370

Thanks, this covers everything. Duck-typed adapters without a release hook work again, a release that is already running is joined within the same 5 s bound instead of being skipped, GLiClass uses the shared released_bytes helper, and CI is green. Approving.
Summary
GLiClass CUDA graphs hold a device-memory pool the registry did not attribute to the model. The memory monitor and OOM recovery could only reclaim that memory by unloading a whole model.
empty_cache()cannot free the pool while the graphs are alive.ModelAdapter.release_optional_memory()is a no-op that returns 0. GLiClass clears its graph runner and, when CUDA is available, callsempty_cache(). The memory monitor calls this on loaded models, least recently used first, on the model inference thread, and unloads a model only if pressure remains. OOM recovery releases the same memory during cache clear and again before LRU eviction. A release that frees nothing does not skip eviction.Compatibility
No request or response change. Under memory pressure, GLiClass graphs may be dropped and recorded again later instead of another model being unloaded. Adapters that do not override the method behave as before.
Tests
pytestontest_gliclass_cuda_graphs.py,test_oom_recovery.py, andtest_registry_async.pypassed. Not run on a GPU: a live graph pool and the driver's freed-byte count. The GLiClass test uses the existing runner fake.Refs #370
