ci: add shared security scan and actionlint - #48
Conversation
- security.yml: osv-scanner and full-history gitleaks via rishitank/.github security.yml@v1 (ecosystem python: the audit step runs `pip install -e .` and pip-audit, which works with the hatchling build in pyproject.toml). Runs alongside the existing CodeQL and pip-audit jobs in ci.yml, which stay as they are. - workflows-lint.yml: actionlint via the shared workflow. @v1is mutable. A change to that tag can change the code that runs in this security job without a change to this repository. Pin a verified revision and update the SHA deliberately when the shared workflow changes. This keeps rebel scum out of the workflow reference. GitHub identifies a commit SHA as the safest reusable-workflow reference. (docs.github.com)As per path instructions, “Uses latest action versions”; verify the selected revision when pinning it.

Pull request was converted to draft
- pyproject.toml: `mcp>=1.9.0` becomes `mcp>=1.9.0,<2`. The server imports
mcp.server.fastmcp, which mcp 2.x removed (FastMCP became MCPServer), so
any fresh resolve today picks mcp 2.3.0 and the package fails to import
("No module named 'mcp.server.fastmcp'"). Found while refreshing the lock.
- .github/workflows/deps-refresh-once.yml: one-shot runner job running
`uv lock -P <pkg>` for exactly the 15 packages osv-scanner/pip-audit
flag (anyio, cryptography, idna, mcp, msgpack, pip, pyasn1,
pydantic-settings, pygments, pyjwt, python-dotenv, python-multipart,
requests, starlette, urllib3). Not a blanket --upgrade: that also moves
ruff 0.14 -> 0.16, whose new UP042 rule and Markdown formatting would
fail ci.yml. Checked locally: pip-audit finds nothing, and ruff check,
ruff format --check, mypy and all 149 tests pass. Deleted in the next
commit.

Ran on a runner by the one-shot deps-refresh-once workflow: pip install uv && uv lock -P anyio -P cryptography -P idna -P mcp -P msgpack -P pip -P pyasn1 -P pydantic-settings -P pygments -P pyjwt -P python-dotenv -P python-multipart -P requests -P starlette -P urllib3
It refreshed uv.lock in 4aa36a5 (`uv lock -P` for the 15 flagged packages, mcp held below 2). This commit is what runs CI against the refreshed lockfile. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_012rYJxu978iUSGFZ1UuqTsi

@v1is a movable tag. If it moves, pull-request andmainruns can load different workflow code. That code can omit actionlint or execute other steps with the caller'scontents: readtoken. GitHub prevents permission elevation, but it does not prevent code from using permissions already granted. Do not let this rebel scum into the workflow.Suggested fix

#48 capped mcp at <2 in pyproject.toml because the server imports mcp.server.fastmcp, which mcp 2.x removed. Renovate then opened #50 (mcp >=2.3,<3), whose Test job fails at import: "No module named 'mcp.server.fastmcp'. This is mcp 2.x, where FastMCP was renamed to MCPServer". A packageRules hold keeps Renovate from proposing 2.x until the server is migrated. Also switches the base from config:recommended to the house preset github>rishitank/.github:python, as the other repos already use. Self-review by Claude
Read the changes in full, and CI was green.
Gap: the mcp<2 cap was not mirrored in Renovate, and the repo did not use the house preset, so Renovate opened #50 (mcp v2). That PR fails because mcp.server.fastmcp was removed.
Fixed in #51 (bb5f9cf): it extends github>rishitank/.github:python and holds mcp below 2. #51 is green with no review threads; it is waiting on the ruleset (1 approving review and the CodeRabbit check). #50 is closed.
Why
Brings animawatch in line with the shared CI in
rishitank/.github: a secrets scan over the full git history and an osv-scanner dependency check (osv-scanner readsuv.lock), plus actionlint on workflow changes.What changed
.github/workflows/security.yml(new):rishitank/.github/.github/workflows/security.yml@v1withecosystem: python. It runs osv-scanner, gitleaks (full history) and an advisory pip-audit. With norequirements.txt, the shared audit step runspip install -e .(hatchling backend,requires-python >=3.11, runs on 3.12) and thenpip-audit. The existing CodeQL, pip-audit and dependency-review jobs inci.ymlare kept..github/workflows/workflows-lint.yml(new): shared actionlint, runs when.github/workflows/**changes.renovate.jsonis deliberately not touched: #32 (Dependabot → Renovate migration) already switches it togithub>rishitank/.github:python, and that PR is left alone.Fixes in this PR
mcp>=1.9.0allowed the incompatible mcp 2.x (1c07c68). The server importsmcp.server.fastmcp, which mcp 2.x removed (FastMCP became MCPServer). Any fresh resolve picked mcp 2.3.0 and the package failed to import.pyproject.tomlnow saysmcp>=1.9.0,<2, with a comment explaining why.uv.lockis refreshed on a runner (4aa36a5) withuv lock -Pfor exactly the 15 flagged packages:--upgrade: that also moves ruff 0.14 → 0.16, whose new UP042 rule and Markdown formatting would failci.yml.CI on the final commit (0ff2c01), all green:
