Why

The e2e suite runs against vite dev with a fake network. Lighthouse runs against the built worker, but it scores performance and does not fail on runtime errors. Nothing checks that the production bundle, served the way Cloudflare runs it, hydrates and behaves without console errors, uncaught exceptions or failed requests. That gap matters here: Renovate keeps proposing TanStack, Vite, rolldown and bun updates (#2, #3, #5, #8). The runtime gate covers it and blocks on the deterministic crawl.

This repo also had no secret scan, no dependency-advisory scan and no lint for its workflows. Its Renovate config used the plain config:recommended preset instead of the shared house preset. Its Lighthouse call tracked the moving @main of the shared workflow, while every other repo pins @v1.

What changed

  • .github/workflows/runtime.yml (new). Calls rishitank/.github runtime-gate.yml in command mode with setup: bun and package-manager: bun, so it runs bun install --frozen-lockfile. Node comes from .nvmrc. It builds with bun run build, then starts npx --yes wrangler@4 dev --config .output/server/wrangler.json --ip 127.0.0.1 --port 4173. That is exactly lighthouserc.json's serve command, on port 4173.
    • Environment. env sets PREVIEWPROOF_FAKE_NET=1 and WRANGLER_SEND_METRICS=false. PREVIEWPROOF_FAKE_NET is only honoured by vite dev builds (import.meta.env.DEV), and the YAML comment says so. The crawler fills the URL form with https://example.com and submits it, so the crawl runs one real audit: the worker fetches that URL live from the runner.
    • Schedule. Runs on PRs, on pushes to main (the visual baseline) and weekly (Friday 04:53 UTC), plus manual dispatch.
  • .github/workflows/security.yml (new). Runs osv-scanner (it reads bun.lock) and gitleaks (full history) through the shared security.yml. ecosystem: none is deliberate: that input only selects the native audit, and npm audit can't read bun.lock, so it would only ever log a lockfile error.
  • .github/workflows/workflows-lint.yml (new). Runs actionlint through the shared workflows-lint.yml whenever workflows change.
  • .github/workflows/ci.yml. lighthouse-ci.yml@main becomes a pinned v1 commit (see below). The inputs (install, build, strict) are identical on v1.
  • renovate.json. config:recommended becomes github>rishitank/.github:node. The house preset already includes config:recommended, and there were no custom rules to keep.
  • .github/runtime-gate.md (new). Hints for the AI explorer: the single-page flows, the expected error states, and what it must not do.

Fixes in this PR

  • osv-scanner: 16 advisories, all transitive. They were seroval 1.5.6 (critical), shell-quote 1.10.0, nanoid 3.3.16, js-yaml 4.3.0, brace-expansion 1.1.16 and 5.0.8, and source-map-js 1.2.1.
    • bun.lock was regenerated on a runner with bun 1.3.13, the version ci.yml pins (90bba3b). package.json is unchanged, so the exact pins (TanStack, vite, nitro, rolldown) hold.
    • Results: seroval/seroval-plugins 1.6.8, shell-quote 1.12.0, nanoid 3.3.20, js-yaml 4.3.2, brace-expansion 1.1.21 and 5.0.12, source-map-js 1.2.2.
    • Why a regeneration instead of bun update <pkg>: bun can't move a transitive dep alone. bun update <pkg> adds it to package.json as a direct dependency, flat overrides can't serve brace-expansion's two majors, and any edit to bun.lock makes bun re-resolve the whole tree anyway.
  • runtime.yml comment (f28b467). The comment said the crawler never submits the URL form. It does since runtime-gate 8e8a197, and the comment now says what it submits.
  • Lighthouse: 5 runs, judged on the median, performance score advisory (3df9260, e26e7e1). lighthouserc.json only:
    • collect.numberOfRuns 3 → 5, and assert.aggregationMethod: "median". LHCI's default (optimistic) judged each budget on the best run.
    • categories:performance: error → warn, minScore 0.9 unchanged. Accessibility, best-practices, SEO and the CLS budget stay error, and strict: true still blocks on them.
    • median, not median-run (3df9260 tried median-run first): in @lhci/cli 0.14, categories:* assertions are scored across every run, and median-run falls through to Math.max there, so 3df9260's run asserted 0.66 (the best of 0.66/0.65/0.66/0.65/0.60). Reproduced against @lhci/utils 0.14.0.
    • The shared lighthouse-ci.yml runs plain lhci autorun, so no CLI flag overrides the file.
  • Performance pass: less first-load JavaScript (fcbf2df, 46ebc68, 049e2c9; one change pushed in three commits).
    • Motion slimmed. Every component now renders m.* inside <LazyMotion features={domAnimation} strict> (root route) instead of motion.*, which bundles layout, drag and projection the app never uses. The features are loaded synchronously on purpose: an async features import was tried first and measured worse (it re-renders every animated element when the chunk arrives and starts the entrance animations late: Speed Index 2.4 → 4.4 s locally).
    • Report loaded on demand. The finished report (ScoreRing, PreviewCards, FixList, ResultActions, report helpers) moves to src/components/AuditReport.tsx and loads with React.lazy; the scoring code (lib/analysis) is imported inside the mutation. A check starts fetching both in parallel with the audit request, so they are normally there before the result.
    • Bytes. First-load JS (gzip): 198.6 KB (index 128.8 + routes 69.8) → ~171 KB (index 130.2 + shared 26.6 + routes 10.8 + icons 3.7). The report is a 16.5 KB chunk and analysis 6.6 KB, fetched only when a check runs.
    • Local Lighthouse A/B (built worker under wrangler, mobile preset, 5 interleaved runs each). At 10× CPU: median performance 0.94 → 0.95, TBT 91 → 62 ms. At 20× CPU (closer to the hosted runner): median 0.83 → 0.90, TBT 439 → 254 ms.
    • CI Lighthouse (same config, 5 runs, median): 0.64 (0.63/0.65/0.64/0.65/0.64, run on af62cae) → 0.67 (0.67/0.66/0.67/0.67/0.66, run on 049e2c9). A small, consistent gain; still a warning below 0.9. On the runner the remaining gap is mostly LCP render delay, which the next item addresses.
    • Not done: render-blocking CSS (styles-*.css, 8 KB gzip). Inlining it needs critical-CSS extraction; TanStack Start's head().styles would put the whole stylesheet into the JS bundle as a string as well, a net loss. Left for a separate change.
  • TanStack Router error typing (049e2c9). The root ErrorComponent now takes the router's ErrorComponentProps. TanStack Router 1.170.41 (Renovate fix(deps): update tanstack-router monorepo #3) types error as unknown, which broke typecheck at __root.tsx:111; the body already handled non-Error values. Checked to typecheck against both 1.170.18 and 1.170.41. fix(deps): update tanstack-router monorepo #3 goes green on lint/typecheck once this merges and Renovate rebases it.
  • CodeRabbit threads, 9 Oct (af568ca).
    • The shared lighthouse-ci.yml, security.yml and workflows-lint.yml are now pinned to 5c644123ed93759cf78aa32d9d119150910e113e # v1, the commit v1 resolves to. The house Renovate preset (helpers:pinGitHubActionDigests) keeps it current.
    • The README table and the ci.yml comment said a performance score under 90 fails the build. They now say it is a warning, which is what lighthouserc.json does.
    • The aggregationMethod placement finding was invalid: @lhci/utils 0.14.0 reads ci.assert.aggregationMethod as the default for every assertion. Both threads are answered and resolved.
  • Branch cleanup (66d3003, 3249e8a). New self-contained .github/workflows/branch-cleanup.yml, part of the account-wide rollout.
    • On a merged same-repo PR, it deletes the head branch, with these exceptions:
      • it is the default branch, or one of main, master, develop, staging, test, gh-pages, deploy-* or release/*;
      • it is the base or head of another open PR;
      • it has moved past the merged commit.
    • The same file was proven live on ci: delete a PR's head branch after it merges, with an allowlist test#15 and #16.

CI on 3249e8a: all green. That covers ci (lint/typecheck/test/build, Browser tests, Lighthouse), runtime, security and actionlint.

Runtime gate v4

2c6670a moves runtime.yml to the v4 gate (signed-in crawl, recorded flows, flaky retry and quarantine, coverage). Only runtime.yml changed.

  • New pin. runtime-gate.yml@f5b19aff…, on the unmerged feat: runtime-gate — boot web apps and use them in a real browser before merging .github#6.
  • Flows job. A flows job calls runtime-gate-flows.yml after runtime, on the weekly schedule and manual runs only. It saves the paths the AI explorer completed to .github/runtime-gate-flows.json on the runtime-gate/flows branch and opens one PR for review, then starts runtime.yml on it. ci.yml has no workflow_dispatch trigger, so it is not started there. Job-level permissions are contents, pull-requests and actions write; the workflow default stays read.
  • Sign-in: none. The app is a single public page (paste a URL, get a preview audit) with no accounts, sessions or sign-in, so no login-* inputs. A comment in runtime.yml says so.

Merge status

Every check is green, and both CodeRabbit threads are resolved. GitHub still refuses the merge: "1 review requesting changes by reviewers with write access". CodeRabbit's two CHANGES_REQUESTED reviews from 8 Oct stand until it re-reviews; it is rate-limited right now. Ready, blocked by ruleset. It needs either a fresh CodeRabbit review or Rishi dismissing those two reviews.

…nner

- runtime.yml: the comment said the crawler never submits the URL form.
Since runtime-gate 8e8a197 it does: it fills the field with
https://example.com and submits, so the crawl runs one real audit and
the worker fetches that URL live from the runner.
- deps-refresh-once.yml (one-shot, deleted in the next commit): regenerates
bun.lock with bun 1.3.13 (the version ci.yml pins) within the ranges
package.json already declares. osv-scanner flags 16 advisories, all
  transitive: seroval 1.5.6 (critical), shell-quote 1.10.0, nanoid 3.3.16,
  js-yaml 4.3.0, brace-expansion 1.1.16 and 5.0.8, source-map-js 1.2.1.
Every patched version is inside its parent's range, but bun cannot move
a transitive dep alone: `bun update <pkg>` adds it as a direct dependency,
flat overrides cannot serve brace-expansion's two majors, and any edit
to bun.lock makes bun re-resolve the whole tree anyway. package.json is
unchanged, so the exact pins (TanStack, vite, nitro, rolldown) hold.

It regenerated bun.lock in 90bba3b (bun 1.3.13, ranges unchanged):
seroval/seroval-plugins 1.6.8, shell-quote 1.12.0, nanoid 3.3.20,

Lighthouse scores swing from run to run on shared hosted runners, and this
job is strict, so a noisy run turns the PR red. LHCI's default assertion
aggregation is "optimistic" (the best value per assertion across runs).

- collect.numberOfRuns: 3 -> 5.
- assert.aggregationMethod: "median-run". It is a top-level assert option
in @lhci/cli 0.14 (assertions.js applies it to every assertion that does
not set its own), so each budget is checked against the run LHCI picks
  as most representative.
- categories:performance: error -> warn, minScore 0.9 unchanged. The
category score is the noisiest number on a hosted runner.
Accessibility, best-practices, SEO and the CLS budget stay `error`.

The shared lighthouse-ci.yml runs plain `lhci autorun`, so nothing on the
command line overrides these values.

"median-run" does not do what it says for category scores. In @lhci/cli
0.14 (unchanged on main), `categories:*` assertions are scored across
every run, not just the representative one, and getValueForAggregationMethod
has no "median-run" branch, so it falls through to Math.max: the same as
"optimistic". The previous commit's run shows it: performance asserted
0.66 from runs 0.66/0.65/0.66/0.65/0.60, whose median is 0.65.

"median" takes the median of the 5 values for category and audit
assertions (CLS included) alike. Reproduced locally against @lhci/utils
0.14.0. Levels and thresholds are unchanged.

… root error boundary from the router

Lighthouse performance on main sits at 0.63-0.77 on hosted runners, driven
by Total Blocking Time from JS boot. Two contained cuts to first-load JS:

- Motion: every component now renders `m.*` inside
  <LazyMotion features={domAnimation} strict> (root route) instead of
`motion.*`, which bundles every feature (layout, drag, projection).
Features stay synchronous: an async load re-rendered every animated
element when it arrived and measured worse.
- The finished report (ScoreRing, PreviewCards, FixList, ResultActions)
moves to src/components/AuditReport.tsx and loads with React.lazy; the
scoring code (lib/analysis) is imported in the mutation. A check
fetches both in parallel with the audit request.

First-load JS: 198.6 KB -> ~171 KB gzip. Local Lighthouse (mobile preset,
20x CPU to approximate the runner, 5 interleaved runs each): median
performance 0.83 -> 0.90, TBT 439 -> 254 ms.

Also: ErrorComponent takes the router's ErrorComponentProps. TanStack
Router 1.170.41 (Renovate #3) types `error` as unknown, which broke
typecheck at __root.tsx:111; the body already handled non-Error values.
Verified to typecheck against both 1.170.18 and 1.170.41.

…oot error boundary

Second half of fcbf2df (the push was split): src/routes/__root.tsx wraps
the outlet in <LazyMotion features={domAnimation} strict> and types
ErrorComponent with the router's ErrorComponentProps (fixes the TanStack
Router 1.170.41 typecheck failure in Renovate #3); src/routes/index.tsx
renders m.* and loads AuditReport and lib/analysis on demand;
src/components/PreviewCards.tsx renders m.*.

…utlet in LazyMotion

Last part of the split push (fcbf2df, 46ebc68): src/routes/__root.tsx.

- ErrorComponent takes the router's ErrorComponentProps. TanStack Router
1.170.41 (Renovate #3) types `error` as unknown, which broke typecheck
at __root.tsx:111; the body already handled non-Error values. Checked
to typecheck against both 1.170.18 and 1.170.41.
- <LazyMotion features={domAnimation} strict> around the outlet, so the
m.* components animate with only the features the app uses.

…nce budget

Address CodeRabbit review on #11:
- ci.yml, security.yml, workflows-lint.yml: pin the shared reusable
workflows to 5c644123 (the commit v1 points at) with a `# v1` comment,
instead of the mutable tag. The house Renovate preset
  (helpers:pinGitHubActionDigests) keeps the digest current.
- README and the ci.yml comment said a performance score below 90 fails
the build; lighthouserc.json makes it a warning. Make the docs say what
  the config does.

GitHub has no account-wide setting for this, the per-repo toggle deletes
every merged head branch, and Free-plan private repos cannot protect
long-lived branches such as develop. This self-contained workflow runs
on merged same-repo PRs and deletes the head branch unless it is the
default branch, one of main/master/develop/staging/test/gh-pages/
deploy-*/release/*, or the base of another open PR. A branch that is
already gone counts as success.

… PRs

From CodeRabbit review: keep the branch when another open PR uses it as
its head; read the branch's current SHA first and keep it if it moved
past the merged PR head (REST has no conditional delete, so only the
instant between read and DELETE is unguarded); comment each permission.

Self-review by Claude of the commits pushed today (af568ca..3249e8a); CodeRabbit hasn't reviewed them line by line yet.

af568ca

  • ci.yml, security.yml and workflows-lint.yml now pin rishitank/.github at 5c644123… # v1.
  • The README and the ci.yml comment now say performance is a warning, matching lighthouserc.json. The README table row keeps its column width.

66d3003 and 3249e8a

  • New self-contained .github/workflows/branch-cleanup.yml, which is the house-wide rollout. The blob is byte-identical to the version proven live on rishitank/test#15 and #16.
  • Both CodeRabbit threads on this PR are answered and resolved.

What I checked: no ${{ }} in run:, minimal permissions with comments, and the job runs only on merged same-repo PRs. actionlint is green in CI, and every check on 3249e8a is green: ci, Browser tests, Lighthouse, runtime, security and actionlint.

Left for Rishi: CodeRabbit's two older CHANGES_REQUESTED reviews (from 8 Oct) still stand, even though their threads are resolved. If the ruleset counts them, the merge is blocked until CodeRabbit re-reviews or the reviews are dismissed.
